HOSPITAL WING COMMUNICATIONS STAFF
Hospital Wing's dispatch and flight following center, MedCom, is located at the Regional Medical Center (The Med), which has been designated the Regional Medical Communication Center for the Memphis Delta Region by the Division of Emergency Medical Services of the Tennessee Department of Health. MedCom is staffed with dedicated flight Communications Specialists, who dispatch the helicopters and record the position of the helicopter every ten minutes. During the entire flight, MedCom monitors the helicopters via Outerlink, a satellite tracking system.
MedCom monitors the local weather conditions and provides information on developing weather to the helicopters and ground units. In addition to their duties of flight following, they the communicate with all other helicopters and ground ambulances transporting patients to any hospital in the Memphis area.
